The TAPPS North Regional meet was held on Thursday, April 25th at the University of Texas at Arlington. The meet provided our track and field regional qualifiers with an opportunity to compete against the best athletes in the North Region for District 5A. The top-four places in each event advanced to the State Championship meet. With the top athletes from the 14 schools of District 5A represented, both St. Michael's boys and girls team competed well, ultimately qualifying athletes for state in a total of seven events.
Final results for the athletes participating at Regionals are as follows, with each of the state qualifiers indicated:
For varsity boys:
Long Jump – Ethan Dang – 1st (State Qualifier); High Jump – Max Pahlke – 2nd (PR) (State Qualifier); Pole Vault – Cole Nguyen – 1st (State Qualifier), Justin Thar – 6th; 4x400M Relay (Hodapp, E. Ogden, Barkley, Dang) – 3rd (SB); (State Qualifier); 110H – William Talbot – 5th (PR); 300H – Andres Patino – 5th; 4x200M Relay (Hodapp, E. Dang, Ogden, Kovacs) – 6th. The boys’ team placed 6th overall.
For varsity girls:
Pole Vault – Claire Lawler – 4th (State Qualifier), Ruthie Zboril – 6th; 4X200M Relay (Lorenz, Koberg, Kadenacy, Kalsu) – 4th (State Qualifier); 100H – Ruthie Zboril – 4th (PR) (State Qualifier), Claire Lawler – 5th; 300H – Claire Lawler – 6th; 1600M – Lucy Lamy – 6th (PR); 4X100M Relay (Nanez, Lorenz, Hernandez Olvera, Koberg) – 7th; 4X400M Relay (Lorenz, Koberg, Kadenacy, Kalsu) – 6th; Long Jump – Kyra Lorenz – 7th; Triple Jump – Ruthie Zboril – 7th; High Jump – Mia Kropewnicki – 5th; Discus – Mia Kropewnicki – 5th (PR). The girls’ team also placed 6th overall.
Congrats to all athletes who qualified for state. With a few of the boys expected to be unavailable for the 4x400M relay, the relay team rosters for state will include the following athletes: Boys 4x400M Relay (Hodapp, Queralt, Patino, Dang, with alternate Kovacs) ; and Girls 4X200M Relay (Lorenz, Koberg, Kadenacy, Kalsu, with alternates Nanez and Hernandez Olvera) Weather permitting, the athletes will continue to train this week in preparation for the TAPPS State T&F Meet, which will take place on Friday and Saturday.
