Our girls golf team has picked up momentum with freshman newcomers, enabling the team to field a girls team in multiple events for the first time in four years. The team's veteran, Viki Hernandez ('27), has been busy representing SMP in two events thus far – in the Austin High Girls Invitational, Viki finished T-5, and in the Lake Travis Shootout, she finished T-20.
The boys team has also been busy, kicking off the season at the TAPPS State Match Play event at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose as defending 5A champions (now having re-aligned to TAPPS 6A). The team was led by Harrison Knight ('25), in his fourth year as a member of the team, followed by newcomer Cole Greff ('26). Reid Bautch ('27) and Sonny Sciantarelli ('27) left the tournament not only with a team-best 3-2-0 record but also a 7-2-0 SMP school match play record. Freshman Jackson Mills ('28) showcased both his skill and potential for solidifying our future. This tournament allowed the team to see what it will take to return to Squaw Valley in May for the TAPPS State Championship.
The team also had the opportunity to play in what is considered the lone social event of the year – the Austin High Maroon Scramble at Morris Williams Golf Course. The team was led by Harrison Knight ('25), and newcomers Andrew Rivas ('25), Jackson Hamilton ('25), and Bo Ogden ('26). The team did a great job finishing T-3 with a 9-under 63.
